Governor General
Canadian Governors General Commemorative Stamp
On February 1, 2002, children from schools in Ottawa named after Canadian Governors General came to Rideau Hall to witness the unveiling of a new stamp issued by Canada Post to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the appointment of our nation's first Canadian Governor General. Design of the stamp is by Neville Smith of Gatineau, Quebec. The image features a combination of the official lion symbol (representing the office of the Governor General), a stylized line drawing of Rideau Hall, and the names of the nine Canadian Governors General. The stamp's primary colours are purple, gold and red, reflecting the official colours associated with the Governor General and Canada, while the numeral "50" indicates the anniversary year.
