Journalist, author, television host and volunteer, she has helped to inform Canadians and to increase social consciousness on many issues concerning women, children and AIDS victims. A tireless advocate for social justice, she has been a central figure in countless action organizations. Founder of Casey House Hospice , she is also a founding member and vice-president of the Campaign Against Child Poverty. Her dedication and commitment to the plight of those in need serve as an example for all Canadians.

| This Toronto journalist has become as widely known for her dedicated work in the fields of human rights and civil liberties as she has for her articles and books. Since her appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada in 1978, she has continued and extended her work through such organizations as the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, Amnesty International, The Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association. (This is a promotion within the Order).
