She continues to be a powerful force for inter-cultural harmony in Canada. Through her columns, which appear in several major English-language dailies, she provides insight into the perspectives of the French-language press and contributes to a better understanding of French Canada. She was the first woman to serve as Chancellor of McGill University and she continues to chair the Quebec Ministry of Education's Advisory Board on English education. In addition, she has participated in important provincial task forces and was Chair of the Fourth Global Conference on Aging.

An astute analyst of Quebec's political scene, she is a respected political commentator and journalist who has contributed significantly to English-French understanding. Apart from her professional interest, she has played important roles in Quebec's arts and education sectors and, in particular, has distinguished herself as chancellor of McGill University.
