A celebrated veteran of the Second World War and former federal cabinet minister, Barney Danson has led a life of distinguished service to Canada. An advocate of veterans' issues, he spearheaded the establishment of the new Canadian War Museum. With its dramatic architecture and exhibits designed to help new generations understand the significance of our nation's military history, it stands as a lasting testament to the contribution made to world freedom by Canada. He has also applied his energy to helping visually impaired persons through his active involvement with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and the Sir Arthur Pearson Association of War Blind Scholarship Fund. His selflessness and perseverance are an inspiration to all Canadians. This is a promotion within the Order.

As a Minister of the Crown, businessman and philanthropist, his varied endeavours have been executed with leadership and integrity. He was largely responsible for the creation of the Katimavik program, demonstrating his keen interest in youth, and was a pivotal player in the production of the docu-drama, "No Price Too High", which chronicles the valiant role played by Canadians in the Second World War.
