| Co-discoverer of the carcinoembryonic antigen which resulted in the development of the first practical serological test for bowel cancer, now in routine use in hospitals around the world, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1978. Since that time, this internationally honoured leader in cancer research, now Physician-in-Chief at the Montreal General Hospital, has headed a research team which, in another major discovery, succeeded in producing antibodies which can detect and identify which specific type of cancer is present in a human system. (This is a promotion within the Order). |
