Presentation of Honours
For everyone present, including the Governor General, the presentation of awards can be a moving event. The Order of Canada, the Decorations for Bravery, the Meritorious Service Decorations and the Caring Canadian Award all acknowledge outstanding achievements and contributions made by remarkable individuals.
In this photograph, Governor General Adrienne Clarkson presents Canada's highest honour for lifetime achievement, the Order of Canada, to Tom Jackson, a popular television, film and musical artist who used his talents to help people in need across the country.
Canadian honours are granted for many reasons, but all have one thing in common. The people who receive them have been nominated by their fellow Canadians. To find out how you can nominate a deserving individual for recognition, please visit the Honours section of the Governor General's web site at the end of this tour.
