Diplomatic Ceremony
An ambassador
is the senior diplomatic representative of one country to another. Countries that belong to the British Commonwealth, such
as Canada, exchange high commissioners. When a new ambassador arrives in Canada, his or her first official duty is to present
Letters of Credence to the Governor General. High commissioners present Letters of Commission. Often, the arriving diplomats
wear their national costumes for this event. Here, His Excellency Chief Oluware Patrick Bejide presents his Letters of Commission
as High Commissioner for the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Governor General Adrienne Clarkson.
