The Pauline Vanier Room

Handcrafted Tradition

Handcrafted TraditionThe large hand-hooked rug on the floor of the Pauline Vanier Room is the collective work of a group of artisans from the Acadian fishing community of Chéticamp, Nova Scotia. Collectors around the world admire their distinctive work. Examples can be found in the Vatican, the White House, Buckingham Palace and now Rideau Hall.

Notice the design at the centre of the rug which features the floral emblems of the ten provinces and two territories that existed when it was made in 1997.
